Duties for the role of Town Planner include:

• Preparing and supporting the submission of planning applications, appeals and pre-application enquiries
• Undertaking planning appraisals and providing planning advice to clients
• Researching planning policy, legislation and other relevant considerations
• Liaising with local planning authorities, statutory consultees, consultants and other stakeholders
• Assisting with negotiations with planning officers and other third parties
• Attending site visits, client meetings, public consultations and planning committees where required
• Preparing clear and concise planning reports, statements and written representations
• Interpreting planning policy and relevant data to support recommendations and advice
• Managing individual tasks and projects to agreed deadlines and quality standards

Skills and experience for the role of Town Planner:

• A degree or postgraduate qualification in Town Planning or a related discipline.
• Previous experience within a planning consultancy, local authority or relevant property environment.
• A good understanding of the UK planning system and associated legislation and policy.
• Experience of preparing or contributing to planning applications would be advantageous.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• The ability to research information, interpret planning policy and develop clear arguments.
• Excellent organisation and time-management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
• A commercial mindset and an interest in the property and development sector.
• Confidence when dealing with clients, planning officers and other stakeholders.
• A proactive approach to learning and professional development.
• The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
