Navigation Engineer (Algorithms) - #2151284

Our client, a leading organisation in the defence and security sector, is seeking a Senior Navigation Engineer to join its highly capable Guidance, Control and Navigation team in Bristol. This permanent role offers the opportunity to contribute to advanced systems, combining hands-on technical engineering, research and strategic influence without line management responsibilities.

• Developing and analysing sophisticated guidance, control and navigation algorithms throughout the systems full lifecycle
• Contributing to the specification, design, implementation and verification of real-time guidance and control architectures
• Working with complex systems and equipment, including RF and infrared seekers, inertial sensors, actuators, propulsion systems and launch platform interfaces
• Influencing the future direction of guidance and control design, testing and technical strategy
• Defining clear engineering requirements and objectives from complex technical challenges
• Managing system complexity by identifying the key technical drivers within interconnected engineering environments
• Diagnosing system abnormalities through physical investigation, computer modelling and simulation using MATLAB and Simulink
• Collaborating across departments, directorates and national boundaries from early research and concept development through to full-scale development and guided flight trials

• Extensive experience in aerospace guidance, control and navigation specification, analysis, algorithm design and implementation
• Strong understanding of navigation systems, sensors, algorithms, real-time architecture and systems verification
• Ability to cross-verify complex systems and system models against underlying theory
• Experience using MATLAB and Simulink for modelling, simulation and engineering analysis
• Ability to communicate complex or conceptually difficult ideas clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to define engineering challenges and establish unambiguous requirements
• Ability to provide technical influence where wider programme or operational factors affect engineering decisions
• Interest in control applications, preferably applied flight control, would be advantageous

• This role requires attendance on site in Bristol five days per week due to workload classification
