Penguin Recruitment is proud to be partnered with a specialist planning and development consultancy that is continuing to grow its Bristol team and is looking to speak with Town Planners at all levels, from Assistant/Graduate Planners through to Senior and Associate-level professionals.

This is an excellent opportunity to join an established but growing consultancy where you can gain exposure to a varied portfolio of residential, commercial, retail, strategic land and urban regeneration projects. The business works closely with landowners, developers and investors, providing commercially focused planning advice and strategies to help unlock development opportunities.

The consultancy is a specialist planning practice with offices across Bristol, Exeter and London. Its team has extensive experience delivering planning advice across a wide range of development sectors and is known for taking a personable, commercial and pragmatic approach to planning.

The Bristol team works on a diverse range of projects, including:

  • Strategic land promotion

  • Tourism and leisure

  • Renewable energy and infrastructure
  • Planning appeals and expert witness work

The consultancy also provides services including planning strategy, planning applications, site promotion, planning appeals, expert witness services, land purchase/board reports and stakeholder engagement.

Who Are They Looking For?

The business is interested in hearing from planners at all levels of experience, including:

Graduate / Assistant Planner

  • Relevant degree or postgraduate qualification in Town Planning
  • Some planning experience desirable but not essential for graduate-level applicants
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Enthusiasm to develop a career within planning consultancy
  • Ability to work as part of a collaborative team
  • Interest in progressing towards RTPI chartership

Town Planner / Planner

  • Relevant planning qualification
  • Previous experience within planning consultancy, local government or a related environment
  • Understanding of the UK planning system
  • Experience assisting with planning applications and planning statements
  • Strong report-writing and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Working towards or holding MRTPI status desirable

Senior / Associate Planner

  • Strong private-sector planning consultancy experience
  • MRTPI or working towards chartership
  • Proven experience managing planning applications and projects
  • Strong knowledge of planning policy and development management
  • Experience dealing directly with clients and stakeholders
  • Ability to manage consultant teams and project delivery
  • Commercial awareness and an interest in business development
  • Experience across residential, commercial, strategic land or regeneration would be advantageous
