Senior Civil Engineer

  • Location: Bristol / UK-based (Supporting Nuclear New Build Programmes)

  • Job Type: Full-time

  • Security Clearance: UK Background Check / Vetting Required (Visa Sponsorship is Available)

About the Client:

Our client is a premier nuclear engineering and technical services partner supporting major energy, defence, and civil infrastructure programmes across the UK. Known for delivering high-integrity engineering, radiation protection, and technical safety solutions, they work in close partnership with Tier 1 nuclear developers and engineering design authorities to deliver complex new-build energy infrastructure.

Engineers joining the team benefit from technical autonomy, direct involvement in flagship nuclear programmes, continuous professional development, and competitive remuneration packages.

About the Opportunity:

This senior-level opportunity supports EDF EPR Engineering UK (EPR-E) on the Sizewell C (SZC) replication strategy for the main civil contract (SZ2201). The focus of this scope is on PTLS (Pools, Tanks, Liners, and Sumps)-critical civil structures and embedded metallic components for the Nuclear Island.

The objective is to leverage lessons learned and design maturity achieved on Hinkley Point C (HPC) to ensure robust technical governance, efficient tendering, and effective contract execution for SZC. Applications are invited for two key functions: PTLS Technical Leads (3 roles) and a Contract Engineering Lead (1 role).

Key Responsibilities:

PTLS Technical Leads (3 Positions)

  • Technical Governance: Provide technical oversight for assigned PTLS scopes, acting as a technical authority across nuclear civil structures, embedded plates/liners, sumps, and pools.

  • Deliverable Approval: Review, assess, and approve contractor technical deliverables, design packages, and construction sequencing.

  • Tender & Supplier Support: Assist in tender evaluations, supplier capability assessments, and the review of manufacturing/fabrication methodologies.

  • Site & Manufacturing Support: Resolve technical queries (TQs), design changes, and non-conformances during component fabrication, welding, and site installation.

  • HPC Replication: Actively promote HPC lessons learned, design replication strategies, and continuous improvement across the SZC PTLS scope.

Contract Engineering Lead (1 Position)

  • Primary Focal Point: Act as the main technical and contractual bridge between EPRE, Tier 1 suppliers, contractors, and project stakeholders.

  • Contract Coordination: Lead overall coordination for PTLS contract delivery, managing execution risks, commercial interfaces, and project governance.

  • Reporting & Management: Oversee technical review workflows, supplier performance tracking, and executive management reporting.

  • Procurement Integration: Provide high-level technical support to procurement teams, contract administration, and supplier management processes.

Candidate Profile:

Requirements & Experience (PTLS Technical Leads)

  • Experience Range: Minimum 10 years of relevant engineering experience within heavy industrial or nuclear environments.

  • PTLS Systems Domain Knowledge: Proven hands-on design, manufacturing oversight, or construction experience with Pools, Tanks, Liners, and Sumps (PTLS) systems and embedded metallic components.

  • Fabrication & Welding: Strong understanding of nuclear-grade fabrication, welding methodologies, and NDT/quality assurance frameworks.

  • Nuclear Technology: Experience on nuclear projects (preferably EPR technology such as HPC) is highly desirable.

  • Codes & Standards: Degree in a relevant engineering discipline. Familiarity with RCC-M, RCC-CW, Eurocodes, and UK nuclear regulatory standards is advantageous.

Requirements & Experience (Contract Engineering Lead)

  • Education: Degree in Mechanical, Civil, Nuclear, or Process Engineering.

  • Experience Range: Minimum 10 years of industrial experience with significant time spent managing major engineering/construction contracts in regulated sectors.

  • Nuclear Delivery: Demonstrated track record on nuclear new-build projects (direct experience with HPC or SZC PTLS-related contracts is strongly preferred).

  • Supply Chain & Construction: Deep understanding of contractor management, fabrication workflows, and site execution risks.

Strategic Mindset

  • Replication Expertise: Proven ability to support the transition, adaptation, and replication of HPC designs, supply chain setups, and lessons learned for Sizewell C.
