Job Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Clinical Operations Matron Team at North Bristol NHS Trust. You will work with the Operations team and the trust to ensure patients have the right care, in the right place, at the right time, all of the time. You will provide clinical, professional and nursing managerial leadership to an established but developing clinical site and discharge lounge team. There will be plenty of opportunity to develop, manage, implement and evaluate change whilst working on local, trust and system projects and developing the existing team. You will have the opportunity to work within the Urgent and Emergency Care and Planned Care work streams. This job requires networking within the trust, the system and external providers.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
To provide clinical, professional and nursing managerial leadership to the clinical site and discharge lounge teams.
To lead and participate in change management projects related to patient flow across the hospital.
To support the administration and management of patients detained under the Mental Health Act on behalf of the Trust.
To lead and manage patient flow on a daily basis, facilitating achievement of patient flow targets inc. 4 and 12 hour ED delays, 15 minute ambulance handover.
To be visible and accessible across the trust and act as a role model
Be accessible to patients, carers and staff for assistance advice and support where required
To ensure that Trust policies and procedures are followed.
To ensure robust governance systems and processes are implemented and issues addressed where required
Communicate effectively with all levels of staff both internally and externally to ensure patient flow is maintained and improved
To represent the Operations Division as required internally and externally, deputising when requested for the Assistant Director of Operations.
There will be occasions where the post holder is expected to work part of their time within clinical practice

Main duties of the job
- Provide clinical leadership, direction and support as a highly knowledgeable/ skilled nursing and operational resource to others in the clinical teams and wider Trust to promote flow and maintain site safety.
- Positively promote change, providing guidance, support and coaching to the team to promote an environment conducive to change.
- Actively support the Urgent and Emergency Care programme.
- Work collaboratively with other professions, organisations and networks.
- Responsible for team recruitment, retention, absence monitoring, performance monitoring and the appraisal process.
- Ensure consistent and effective roster and budget management.
- To problem solve and and support conflict management and resolution. Support decision making with “on call” managers/executive staff out of hours and the Deputy COO/Director of Urgent and Emergency Care in hours.
- Develop and regularly review/update and standards, policies, protocols and guidelines.
- Develop and implement induction, educational and personal development plans for all staff.
- Ensure provision of clinical supervision and wellbeing support for staff.
- Participate in and initiate research and/or audit projects as opportunities arise.
- Undertake and support other managers in the investigation and reporting of complaints and untoward incidents/ accidents, and ensure learning shared.
- Monitor/report identified clinical risks and plans to reduce/manage.
- Undertake role of investigating officer for disciplinary hearings.

- Registered Nurse
- Degree or evidence of degree level qualification
- Post registration course relevant to speciality
- Teaching and Assessing Course

- Master Qualification or evidence of working at Master level

- Experience as Band 7 Clinical Site Manager for a minimum 2 years or equivalent relevant Band 7 experience
- Significant acute nursing experience
- Ward/Department management experience
