Job Overview
In response to the Three Year Delivery Plan for Maternity and Neonatal Services, NBT are excited to grow the Continuous Improvement and Learning Team. This will support routine Divisional Governance requirements and help us to achieve evolving priorities of the Division and national safety agenda. We have an exciting opportunity for the role of Continuous Improvement and Learning Midwife.

Main duties of the job
We are looking for someone who is passionate about patient safety and continuous quality improvement for the role. In this position, the post holder will work alongside and in partnership with the current Continuous Improvement and Learning Lead. In collaboration with key stakeholders, the post holder will identify learning from national recommendations using principles set out in the national and local Patient Safety Incident Response Framework.
There is a requirement to support the clinical escalation rota for day shifts during the Monday- Friday working week for approximately 2 days a month.

North Bristol Trust's Women and Children's Health Division offers a complete range of gynaecology and perinatal services to residents of North Bristol, South Gloucestershire, and North Somerset. Our recent CQC inspection rates us as "good," which means we are performing well and meeting expectations. Our gynaecology team offers a comprehensive outpatient and inpatient service with emphasis on one-stop outpatient services, and specialised skills in sub-fertility, urogynaecology, endometriosis and minimal access surgery. We welcome over 5,600 babies every year, and our dedicated staff are committed to providing personalised care of the highest quality. Our NICU is a Level 3 Tertiary Unit, with 34 cots, including 8 intensive care cots, 8 high dependency cots, and 18 special care cots. We are part of the Southwest Regional Neonatal Network, which provides care to most of the extreme preterm infants in the region.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
- This role encompasses incident management, risk management, clinical audit and clinical effectiveness programmes, supporting the delivery of an effective, high-quality quality governance and risk management programme across the division, with a strong emphasis on continuous learning.
- The post holder will support the Continuous Improvement Learning Team in coordinating investigations, facilitating patient safety learning reports and supporting colleagues within the division to drive the quality governance agenda.
- The post holder will have a key role in ensuring that actions arising from incident investigations are completed and that trend analysis of incidents and learning is shared across the organisation where appropriate.
- The post holder will also provide support to the division to ensure that external inspections have appropriate action plans and that corrective actions have been completed with an associated follow up audit planned (as required).
- The post holder will need the ability to liaise with senior clinicians both within and external to the Trust and to offer support to staff supporting the investigation of the Trust’s systems by MNSI. In addition to this there will be a requirement to liaise with families offering support sometimes at a very distressing time.
- The post holder will assist with the preparation for and the running of perinatal mortality meetings including the completion of the Perinatal Mortality Review Tool (PMRT).
Education/Training/qualification

- BSc in Healthcare or equivalent professional Registration
- Post registered education in relevant topics

- Experience in Patient Safety, Risk Management and Clinical Governance.Experience of preparing/writing papers;

- Knowledge and understanding of research and evidence based practice, Quality improvement and audits and the application to practice
- Knowledge of incident report management systems
- Knowledge and understanding of current developments in Midwifery
- Ability to structure and form an investigation
