Are you an experienced payroll professional looking for a role where you can make a real impact?
Reed Payroll are delighted to be partnering with a well-established charity organisation in North Somerset to recruit a Payroll Officer. This is an excellent opportunity to join a values-driven organisation that provides vital services for the local community.
This role sits at the heart of both Finance and HR, offering much more variety than a traditional payroll position. Alongside taking ownership of payroll processing, you will have the opportunity to support payroll journals, reconciliations, pension administration and process improvement initiatives as the organisation continues to grow.
The organisation offers genuine flexibility and is focused on finding the right individual rather than fitting someone into a rigid working pattern.
The Role
As Payroll Officer, you will be responsible for delivering accurate and timely payroll services across weekly and monthly payroll cycles, while working closely with both Finance and HR colleagues.
Key responsibilities include:
- Processing weekly and monthly payrolls
- Managing payroll amendments including starters, leavers, salary changes and contractual updates
- Preparing payroll journals and reconciliations
- Administering workplace pension schemes and auto-enrolment processes
- Supporting salary sacrifice arrangements and employee benefits
- Maintaining accurate payroll records and ensuring compliance with payroll legislation
- Resolving payroll queries from employees and managers
- Producing payroll reports and supporting month-end processes
- Identifying opportunities to improve payroll processes, controls and efficiencies
- Working collaboratively with HR and Finance to ensure data accuracy and seamless payroll delivery
- This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys problem-solving, improving processes and being involved in wider business operations.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:
- Previous end-to-end payroll experience
- Experience preparing payroll journals and reconciliations
- Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation and statutory payments
- Pension administration experience, including auto-enrolment
- Experience working with salary sacrifice schemes
- Strong Excel skills and confidence working with manual payroll processes
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
- The ability to build strong working relationships across Finance and HR teams
- A proactive mindset with a continuous improvement approach
- Experience within the charity or not-for-profit sector would be advantageous but is by no means essential.
What's in it for You?
- Salary of £35,000 - £40,000 depending on experience
- Flexible working arrangements tailored around the successful candidate
- 28 days annual leave plus bank holidays (pro rata for part-time roles)
- Health Cash Plan
- Discounted gym membership
- Training and development opportunities
- Childcare discounts
- Employee assistance and counselling services
- Retail discount schemes
- The opportunity to join a friendly, supportive and purpose-driven organisation
