The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Flood Modeller to join a growing Water and Environment team based in Bristol.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious and technically strong flood modeller to take a leading role in delivering a diverse portfolio of flood risk and hydraulic modelling projects across the UK.

Working alongside a multidisciplinary team of engineers and environmental specialists, you will lead complex technical projects, provide expert flood risk advice and support the continued development of the team's capabilities.

The role offers the opportunity to take ownership of projects, develop client relationships and play an important part in mentoring and developing more junior colleagues.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the delivery of complex flood risk assessments and hydraulic modelling projects.
  • Develop, undertake and review 1D and 2D hydraulic models using industry-standard software, including TUFLOW, Flood Modeller, HEC-RAS and InfoWorks ICM.
  • Prepare and review Flood Risk Assessments (FRAs), technical reports and supporting planning documentation.
  • Undertake hydrological assessments, catchment analysis and rainfall-runoff modelling.
  • Analyse and interpret flood risk data, including Environment Agency datasets, LiDAR and flood mapping.
  • Develop appropriate flood mitigation strategies and provide technical advice to clients and project teams.
  • Liaise with the Environment Agency, Lead Local Flood Authorities and other regulatory bodies.
  • Manage project delivery, including budgets, programmes, resources and technical quality.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, identifying opportunities for repeat business and future projects.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring and guidance to junior engineers and modellers.
  • Contribute to business development and the continued growth of the flood risk and water environment offering.
About You

You will be an experienced flood modeller with a strong technical background and the confidence to lead projects, manage client relationships and provide technical guidance.

Ideally, you will have:

  • A degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Hydrology, Geography or a related discipline.
  • Significant experience within flood risk, hydraulic modelling or water environment consultancy.
  • Strong experience in 1D and 2D hydraulic modelling.
  • Proficiency in software such as TUFLOW, Flood Modeller, HEC-RAS or InfoWorks ICM.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing Flood Risk Assessments and technical modelling reports.
  • A good understanding of UK flood risk guidance, planning policy and Environment Agency requirements.
  • Experience managing projects and liaising with clients and regulatory stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication, organisation and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to mentor junior colleagues and contribute to the development of a technical team.

Chartered status, or working towards chartership with a relevant professional institution, would be advantageous.

What's on Offer?
  • Competitive salary, dependent on experience.
  • Generous annual leave allowance.
  • Pension scheme.
  • Flexible and hybrid working arrangements.
  • Professional development and support towards chartership.
  • Clear opportunities for career progression.
  • A collaborative and supportive working environment.
  • Exposure to a diverse range of technically challenging projects.
  • The opportunity to take on a senior technical and leadership role within a growing team.
The Next Step

If you are an experienced Senior Flood Modeller looking for an opportunity to take the next step in your career, work on exciting projects and play a key role in the development of a growing team, we would be keen to hear from you.
