Legal Manager - Senior Lawyer

Job Type: Interim contract, up to 6 months
Location: Fully remote, with optional office working if local
Rate: Up to £500 per day inclusive of agency fees and VAT

We are seeking an experienced Legal Manager for our client to provide interim operational leadership to an in-house legal function during a period of change and transformation. This assignment is suited to a qualified senior solicitor with strong management experience who can quickly add value, support service delivery, and improve reporting, processes, and ways of working.

This Legal Manager opportunity will focus on practical leadership rather than full permanent Head of Legal responsibilities. The successful Legal Manager will work closely with senior stakeholders while keeping day-to-day legal operations running smoothly.

Day-to-day of the role

  • Provide operational leadership and management support across the legal team
  • Lead on line management, performance management, appraisals, and workload allocation
  • Support colleagues through change in a collaborative and practical way
  • Improve management information and reporting, including KPIs, capacity, legal risk, and external spend
  • Analyse existing data and provide clear, practical insights to support decision-making
  • Drive service improvement through better processes, templates, and efficient ways of working
  • Support the proportionate use of legal technology and AI within the legal function
  • Contribute to delivery of the legal strategy, including transformation activity and workforce planning
  • Work closely with senior stakeholders to maintain strong relationships and service delivery

Required skills & qualifications

  • Qualified solicitor with strong post-qualification experience
  • Broad in-house legal background, ideally including commercial, contracts, employment, regulatory, or healthcare-related matters
  • Proven experience managing or leading within a legal team
  • Strong understanding of performance management, appraisals, and team support
  • Experience improving reporting, KPIs, workload visibility, and legal risk management information
  • Demonstrable service improvement experience, including process development and template enhancement
  • Awareness of legal technology and AI, with the ability to apply these tools proportionately
  • Sound judgement, strong communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with senior stakeholders
  • Ability to start adding value quickly within a time-limited interim assignment

Benefits

  • Fully remote working
  • Optional office use if conveniently located
  • Opportunity to make an immediate impact in a senior interim assignment
  • Involvement in service improvement and transformation activity
  • Flexible scope focused on core operational leadership priorities
  • Competitive day rate within an established budget
