Project Manager – The Company
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Project Manager to join a successful and growing main contractor specialising in complex refurbishment, conversion and student accommodation projects.
Our client has established a strong reputation for delivering high-quality schemes, with projects typically valued up to £10m.
The business offers a collaborative working environment, an excellent pipeline of projects and the opportunity to play an influential role in shaping how projects are planned, tendered and delivered.
Project Manager – The Role
This is an exciting opportunity for a commercially aware and technically strong Project Manager to take on a varied position with a significant emphasis on pre-construction.
Unlike a traditional site-based Project Manager position, this role will focus heavily on the early stages of projects, working closely with the estimating, commercial and operational teams to develop robust construction methodologies, programmes and logistical strategies during the tender process.
You will also play a key role in client engagement, attending meetings, undertaking site visits and helping to develop a consistent, professional and competitive approach to tender submissions.
The position offers hybrid working, combining time in the Bristol office with site visits, client meetings and flexibility to work remotely.
Project Manager – Duties & Responsibilities
- Play a leading role in the pre-construction and tender stages of refurbishment and conversion projects.
- Undertake site visits to assess project constraints, access, logistics and construction methodologies.
- Develop detailed construction programmes, sequencing and delivery strategies.
- Work closely with estimating and commercial teams to produce competitive, technically robust tender submissions.
- Prepare and review construction logistics plans, phasing strategies and site establishment requirements.
- Attend client meetings, tender interviews and presentations, representing the business professionally.
- Identify project risks, buildability challenges and opportunities for value engineering.
- Support the development of standardised pre-construction processes, methodologies and tender deliverables.
- Liaise with consultants, subcontractors and internal stakeholders throughout the bid process.
- Provide operational input to ensure tender proposals are realistic, achievable and commercially viable.
- Support the transition from pre-construction into project delivery, ensuring effective handover to operational teams.
Project Manager – Requirements
- Proven experience as a Project Manager or Senior Project Manager within a main contracting environment.
- Strong understanding of construction programming, sequencing, logistics and project delivery.
- Previous involvement in pre-construction, tendering and bid processes.
- Experience delivering refurbishment, conversion or complex construction projects.
- Excellent client-facing skills, with the confidence to lead meetings and contribute to tender presentations.
- Strong technical understanding of construction methodologies and buildability.
- Commercial awareness and the ability to identify risks and opportunities during tender stages.
- Excellent communication, organisational and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience using construction programming software, ideally Asta Powerproject or MS Project.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with estimating, commercial and operational teams.
Project Manager – The Package
- Salary up to £70,000 depending on experience.
- Car allowance and comprehensive benefits package.
- Hybrid working arrangements.
- Opportunity to work on interesting and technically challenging refurbishment and conversion schemes.
- Significant involvement in pre-construction strategy and project planning.
- Supportive, established main contractor with a strong pipeline of work.
- Excellent opportunity to influence and develop the company’s pre-construction offering.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Project Manager who enjoys the technical, planning and client-facing aspects of construction and is looking for a position offering greater involvement in pre-construction rather than traditional day-to-day site management.
