You will oversee commercial reporting and forecasting, maintain visibility of sales pipeline performance, coordinate key growth initiatives and ensure the Business Development team has the systems, processes and direction needed to succeed.

This position would suit someone who enjoys combining analytical thinking with hands-on delivery, taking ownership of projects and driving accountability across a commercial team.

Key Responsibilities

Commercial Operations & Performance

  • Manage the sales pipeline, forecasting processes and performance reporting across the Business Development function.
  • Analyse commercial data and provide actionable insights to support business planning and decision-making.
  • Monitor performance against agreed revenue, pipeline and growth objectives, ensuring KPIs remain visible and teams are accountable for results.
  • Support the ongoing development and execution of the Business Development strategy, translating wider commercial goals into clear actions and measurable deliverables.
  • Oversee the operational implementation of business development priorities, helping ensure agreed targets and strategic objectives are achieved.
  • Maintain effective governance of commercial activity, providing accurate reporting and a clear view of performance across the function.

Strategic Projects & Growth Initiatives

  • Take ownership of key commercial projects, managing their progression from initial planning through to implementation.
  • Coordinate sector-specific strategies and business growth programmes.
  • Ensure strategic priorities are converted into defined actions, with progress monitored and outcomes delivered.
  • Work collaboratively with relevant stakeholders to maintain momentum and ensure projects remain aligned with wider business objectives.

Commercial Systems & Process Improvement

  • Take responsibility for the effectiveness and ongoing improvement of commercial systems, processes and reporting tools.
  • Oversee Salesforce usage and data integrity, ensuring agreed standards and procedures are followed consistently.
  • Address gaps in system adoption and data quality, encouraging accountability across the team.
  • Lead the introduction and implementation of new tools and technologies where required.
  • Promote continuous improvement, ensuring systems and working practices support effective commercial performance.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Provide line management to the Business Development Representative team.
  • Coach and support team members to strengthen their performance and professional development.
  • Encourage a culture of accountability, high performance and consistent working practices.
  • Contribute to the onboarding and training of team members, helping build capability across the function.

Commercial Leadership Support

  • Work as a trusted partner to the Commercial Director, providing support across key commercial priorities.
  • Help coordinate strategic initiatives, monitor progress and ensure agreed actions are followed through.
  • Build effective working relationships across teams and stakeholder groups to maintain alignment and support delivery.

Skills & Experience

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Strong commercial awareness, with the ability to interpret performance data and identify meaningful business insights.
  • Excellent organisational and project management capabilities, with the confidence to manage multiple priorities.
  • Clear communication and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to influence and engage senior colleagues.
  • A proactive, practical and solutions-focused approach, with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
  • The ability to balance longer-term strategic objectives with the day-to-day operational detail required to deliver results.
  • An interest in improving commercial processes, reporting, systems and team performance.
