The role

We are looking for an experienced audit professional to join a Provider Audit team, helping to review the quality of data, systems and processes across higher education providers.

This is a varied role combining internal audit, data analysis, assurance and stakeholder management. You will carry out audits and reviews, identify potential risks or areas for improvement, and work with providers to ensure their data and internal processes are accurate and effective.

The role would suit someone from an internal audit, assurance, compliance or regulatory background, particularly within higher education or the wider public sector.

Key responsibilities

  • Plan and carry out audits and assurance reviews.
  • Review data, systems and processes to identify risks, inaccuracies or areas for improvement.
  • Analyse information and supporting evidence as part of audit activity.
  • Produce clear, evidence-based audit reports and recommendations.
  • Work with providers to understand findings and agree appropriate actions.
  • Communicate potentially sensitive or challenging findings professionally.
  • Work with internal regulatory teams where potential risks or compliance issues are identified.
  • Support annual verification exercises relating to HESA and ILR data submissions.
  • Manage your own audits and workload, responding to changing priorities where required.
  • Occasional travel to providers across England will be required as part of audit activity.

About you

We are particularly interested in candidates who have:

  • Experience within internal audit, assurance, investigations or a similar environment.
  • Experience reviewing the effectiveness of systems, processes and controls.
  • Strong numerical and data analysis skills.
  • Confidence working with large or complex sets of information.
  • Experience producing clear audit reports and presenting findings.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, including the ability to challenge constructively.
  • The ability to manage audits or pieces of work independently.
  • Good judgement and the confidence to deal with unexpected issues during an audit.
