Structural Engineer / Senior Structural Engineer
Bristol
There's a big difference between working for a consultancy where you're simply another Engineer delivering projects, and one where your development, technical input and long-term career genuinely matter.
I'm working with one of the UK's well-established and highly respected engineering consultancies, a business that has built its reputation around quality engineering, strong client relationships and, importantly, the people behind the projects.
This isn't a consultancy looking to grow at any cost. It's a business with a longstanding presence in the industry, a collaborative approach to engineering and a culture that places real value on technical expertise, professional development and giving its Engineers the opportunity to make an impact.
Their Bristol office is looking to welcome either a Structural Project Engineer or Senior Structural Engineer into its building structures team, offering an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to be part of a successful, forward-thinking practice without losing the personal feel and accessibility of a supportive engineering environment.
One of the real attractions here is the variety of work. Rather than being tied to a particular sector or repeatedly delivering similar schemes, you'll have exposure to a broad mix of building structures projects, from new-build developments through to the refurbishment, alteration and adaptation of existing buildings.
The work is predominantly focused on reinforced concrete and structural steel, with opportunities to get involved in technically challenging schemes where creative thinking and sound engineering judgement are equally important.
You'll be involved across the project lifecycle, working closely with architects, contractors and fellow design professionals, with the opportunity to influence design decisions rather than simply being handed calculations to complete.
For someone joining at Project Engineer level, we're ideally looking for around four years' experience in building structures. You'll already have a solid technical foundation and be looking for an environment where you can develop greater project ownership, build your confidence with clients and continue progressing towards professional qualification.
At Senior Structural Engineer level, around six years' experience or more would be ideal. You'll be comfortable taking the lead on structural design packages, coordinating with other disciplines, managing technical delivery and supporting the development of more junior Engineers.
In either case, you'll need a good degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, a sound understanding of UK design standards and experience designing building structures in concrete and steel. Exposure to existing buildings, refurbishment or structural alteration projects would be particularly welcome.
What I particularly like about this opportunity is that the business offers the credibility, project exposure and technical resources you'd associate with a leading national consultancy, but with an emphasis on collaboration, individual contribution and long-term career development.
You'll be joining an environment where experienced Engineers are accessible, knowledge is shared and people are encouraged to develop their own technical specialisms and professional interests. There is genuine scope to progress, whether your ambitions lie in becoming a highly accomplished technical Engineer, moving into project leadership or eventually taking on a more senior role within the business.
It's the sort of opportunity that could suit someone currently working for a smaller consultancy who wants access to a broader range of projects and resources, or equally someone working within a large corporate environment who misses feeling connected to the people and projects around them.
If you're a Structural Engineer or Senior Structural Engineer in Bristol who's open to exploring what else is out there, I'd be happy to talk you through the business, the team and what makes this particular opportunity worth considering.
