An established and successful professional services business is looking to appoint an Accountant to join its finance team. This is a varied role offering a strong level of autonomy, responsibility and exposure to senior management, while also providing the support and development needed for someone looking to progress their career. You will work closely with the Finance Director and wider management team, taking responsibility for a broad range of accounting activities and helping to ensure the finance function operates accurately, efficiently and effectively. The role would suit an Accountant who enjoys a varied environment, is comfortable taking ownership and is keen to develop their wider commercial and financial skills.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Managing the day-to-day accounting processes across the business.
• Supervising and supporting members of the transactional finance team.
• Preparing monthly management accounts and financial reports.
• Supporting the budgeting and forecasting process.
• Assisting with cash-flow management and financial planning.
• Monitoring income, expenditure and business performance.
• Preparing regular reconciliations and maintaining accurate financial records.
• Overseeing purchase ledger and sales ledger activity.
• Supporting year-end accounts preparation.
• Liaising with external accountants, auditors and other professional advisers.
• Preparing and monitoring VAT and other statutory financial returns.
• Supporting payroll and pension processes where required.
• Maintaining appropriate financial controls and procedures.
• Reviewing and reconciling key balance sheet accounts.
• Providing financial information and analysis to senior management.
• Supporting the business with financial and commercial queries.
• Identifying opportunities to improve processes, systems and efficiencies.
• Helping to introduce and develop the use of technology across the finance function.
• Supporting financial projects and other ad hoc requirements.

We are looking for someone who is organised, commercially aware and highly accurate, with the confidence to take ownership of their work.

You will ideally have:

• Previous experience in an Accountant, Management Accountant or similar finance role.
• Experience within a professional services or multi-site environment would be advantageous.
• A strong understanding of accounting principles and financial controls.
• Experience preparing management accounts and financial reports.
• Good Excel skills and confidence working with accounting systems.
• Strong attention to detail and excellent organisational skills.
• The ability to manage competing priorities and work to deadlines.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• A proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.
• The confidence to work with senior stakeholders.
• A high level of discretion and confidentiality.
• The ability to work collaboratively and provide support across the wider finance team.

You may be ACCA, ACA or CIMA qualified or part-qualified, although applications will also be considered from experienced AAT-qualified or qualified-by-experience candidates who can demonstrate the appropriate level of technical knowledge.

Experience working within a regulated professional services environment would be advantageous.
