Senior CAD Technician (Mechanical or Electrical) - #2154699

My Client is recruiting for a Senior CAD Technician (Mechanical or Electrical) in the Water Sector

Location - Multiple Locations in North and South of England with hybrid working

Reporting directly to the Regional Discipline Lead, you will lead the coordination and delivery of electrical CAD and BIM outputs across a portfolio of projects.

You will be instrumental in driving digital delivery excellence, managing drawing production, supporting offshore design resources and helping to ensure projects are delivered efficiently and in accordance with company, industry and client standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the production, coordination and quality assurance of electrical design drawings and models.
• Manage and prioritise CAD workloads to ensure project programmes and delivery milestones are achieved.
• Act as a Digital Delivery Champion, promoting best practices in CAD, BIM and digital engineering.
• Coordinate drawing production undertaken by offshore and remote design teams.
• Ensure all designs comply with CDM Regulations, project standards and company procedures.
• Coordinate design information across Electrical, ICA, Mechanical, Civil and Process disciplines.
• Support the identification and resolution of technical queries, design clashes and coordination issues.
• Produce and review electrical design models, layouts, schematics and detailed design drawings.
• Maintain drawing standards, quality assurance processes and document control requirements.
• Work closely with construction teams and supply chain partners to improve buildability and project efficiency.
• Support BIM implementation and digital project delivery across engineering teams.
• Encourage a positive health and safety culture throughout the design process.
• Mentor and support junior CAD technicians and designers where required.

About The Candidate:
You'll be a highly capable Mechanical or Electrical CAD Technician with strong technical skills, a collaborative approach and a passion for delivering high-quality engineering solutions.
Essential

• Significant experience working within a multidisciplinary engineering environment.
• Strong Mechanical or Electrical CAD background within infrastructure, utilities, industrial or water sectors.
• Advanced 2D drafting skills with extensive experience using industry-standard software.
• Strong 3D modelling experience and understanding of model-based design principles.
• Proven experience using Autodesk Revit and other associated 3D design applications.
• Experience with Bentley ProjectWise or equivalent document management systems.
• Understanding of electrical engineering drawings, including layouts, cable routes, schematics, MCCs, power distribution and control systems.
• Broad experience using engineering software and digital delivery tools.
• Good understanding of BIM processes, 3D modelling standards and QA procedures.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering accurate, high-quality outputs.
• Excellent communication and coordination skills.
• Self-motivated with a proactive and problem-solving mindset.

Desirable

• Experience working within the UK water and wastewater industry.
• Knowledge of Mechanical or EICA (Electrical, Instrumentation, Control and Automation) systems.
• Familiarity with BIM Level 2 standards and digital delivery methodologies.
• Experience coordinating offshore or remote design teams.
• Previous mentoring or supervisory responsibilities.
• Understanding of construction practices, installation requirements and buildability considerations.
• Experience working on large-scale infrastructure or utility projects.
