Summary

We’re looking for a Junior Naval Architect to join a specialist maritime and defence engineering team in Bristol on a hybrid basis. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with early career experience in high-speed craft to contribute to innovative marine vehicle designs. If you have a passion for naval architecture and proven skills in 3D modelling, this contract role offers the chance to apply your expertise on exciting projects.

Up to £52.00 per hour

Client Overview

Our client is a leading organisation within the maritime and defence sector, focused on delivering cutting-edge marine engineering solutions. They work on complex projects involving high-speed craft and advanced marine vehicles, ensuring robust and innovative designs for critical applications.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the design and development of high-speed craft and marine vehicles.
• Support early-stage design activities including pre-concept engineering studies.
• Undertake sizing studies and assist with naval architecture calculations.
• Produce and develop technical specifications and requirements for marine vehicles.
• Create accurate 3D arrangement models using CAD software.
• Utilise Rhino3D to develop detailed design elements.
• Prepare technical documentation and reports to support project deliverables.

Must-have Requirements

• Degree in Naval Architecture or Mechanical Engineering (minimum Bachelor’s level).
• At least 1 year of experience in high-speed craft design and development.
• Recent experience producing specifications and/or requirements for marine vehicles.
• Practical knowledge of SurfM high-speed craft.
• Strong experience in 3D arrangement CAD modelling.
• Proficiency in Rhino3D.
• Previous involvement in small boat sizing studies.

Nice-to-have Skills

• Familiarity with the UK maritime commercial and defence sectors.
• Knowledge of high-speed craft sizing and operations.
• Experience with Uncrewed Surface Vessels (USVs).
• Understanding of stability modelling and landing craft studies.
• Exposure to pre-concept engineering design, weight and power estimating.
• Knowledge of scaling impacts on boat design, stability and operability.
• Ability to produce clear and structured technical reports.
