Senior Design Manager - #2150979

We are currently recruiting on behalf of a leading Tier 1 main contractor seeking an ambitious, experienced and strategically minded Senior Design Manager to join their team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an established Senior Design Manager, successful Design Manager, or high-performing design professional looking to take the next step in their career. The role offers the opportunity to take ownership of major projects, lead multi-disciplinary design teams and work closely with clients, consultants and project delivery teams to ensure successful project outcomes.

The successful candidate will have experience working within a complex construction environment and will be responsible for driving design quality, managing risk and ensuring projects are delivered in line with programme, budget, statutory requirements and client expectations. Projects will span a variety of sectors, including refurbishment, education and Ministry of Justice.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage design teams across major construction projects.
• Coordinate multi-disciplinary consultants and external design teams.
• Chair design team meetings and manage design deliverables.
• Ensure designs comply with client requirements, statutory regulations, CDM and project specifications.
• Manage design development from pre-construction through to completion.
• Identify design risks and opportunities, including value engineering and buildability.
• Work closely with commercial and construction teams to ensure designs meet programme, budget and quality requirements.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants and subcontractors.
• Support and mentor junior members of the design team.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Proven experience in a Design Manager, Senior Design Manager or similar role within construction.
• Relevant qualification in Construction, Architecture, Engineering, Design Management or a related discipline.
• Experience managing multi-disciplinary design teams on complex projects.
• Strong understanding of UK construction processes, Building Regulations and CDM requirements.
• Commercially aware with a strong understanding of cost, programme and buildability.
• Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder-management skills.
• Tier 1 contractor experience is highly desirable.
