Yolk Recruitment is supporting an established specialist engineering business with the recruitment of an HVAC Project Engineer to manage technically complex installation projects across the South of the UK.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong HVAC, refrigeration or building-services engineering knowledge who enjoys combining technical problem-solving with end-to-end project delivery and customer interaction.
You'll take ownership of projects from design and planning through installation, commissioning and handover, coordinating engineers and subcontractors while acting as a key technical point of contact for customers. The role will combine office-based project work with regular customer and project-site activity, so would suit someone who enjoys being close to both the technical detail and physical delivery of projects. The client's original brief specifically covers projects from design through commissioning and follow-up.
This is what you'll be doing
- Manage HVAC installation projects from initial design and planning through to commissioning, handover and follow-up.
- Develop project programmes, schedules, timelines and deliverables in line with customer requirements.
- Work closely with Design and Engineering teams to ensure proposed HVAC installations meet technical, regulatory and customer requirements.
- Coordinate internal technicians, installation teams, subcontractors and other trades throughout project delivery.
- Select and manage subcontractors, including commercial negotiation, performance, quality and compliance.
- Attend customer and project sites to monitor progress, inspect installation quality and resolve technical or operational issues.
- Act as a key liaison between customers, engineers, architects, subcontractors and installation teams, providing clear project updates throughout delivery.
- Manage project budgets, labour, materials and subcontractor costs while identifying opportunities to control expenditure without compromising quality.
- Identify additional works or changes to project scope and ensure these are commercially agreed with customers before work progresses.
- Identify potential project risks including delays, resource constraints, technical issues and unexpected site conditions, developing appropriate solutions and mitigation plans.
- Manage project changes, technical discrepancies and installation issues through to resolution.
- Ensure installations meet relevant HVAC, safety, quality and energy-efficiency requirements.
- Maintain accurate project documentation including schedules, contracts, change orders, inspection records and progress reports.
- Manage project completion and handover, ensuring customer requirements have been met and maintaining a high level of client satisfaction.
The experience you'll bring
- Strong technical experience within HVAC, refrigeration, air conditioning or closely related building-services engineering.
- Previous experience delivering or managing HVAC installation projects, ideally from design/planning through installation and commissioning.
- Mechanical Engineering, HVAC or related qualifications would be beneficial; alternatively, strong vocational HVAC training combined with relevant project experience will be considered.
- Experience coordinating engineers, technicians, subcontractors and multiple trades.
- Strong customer-facing skills with the confidence to discuss technical requirements, project progress and challenges directly with clients.
- Commercial awareness, with experience managing project budgets, costs, variations and subcontractor expenditure.
- Ability to interpret technical requirements and work effectively with Design and Engineering teams to develop practical installation solutions.
- Experience using project-management tools and producing project programmes/Gantt charts.
- MS Project, AutoCAD or BIM experience would be advantageous.
- Full UK driving licence and flexibility to travel to customer/project sites, including occasional overnight stays where required.
And this is what you'll get in return
- Salary up to £65,000 depending on experience
- Annual performance-related bonus
- Company car or car allowance (Your choice)
- 37-hour working week
- 25 days annual leave plus Bank Holidays
- Employer pension contribution of 5%
- Private medical cover
- Enhanced maternity and paternity leave
- Employee Assistance Programme
- Company laptop and mobile phone
- Company events
- Varied working environment combining office, customer and project-site activity
