An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Lead Engineer to join a long-term facilities management contract delivering building services across a portfolio of academy schools in Bristol. Supporting the maintenance and operation of four well-established educational facilities, you will join a team that is committed to delivering safe, compliant, and high-quality engineering services while providing excellent opportunities for training, career development, and internal progression.

Your new role
As the Lead Engineer, you will provide day-to-day engineering support across multiple academy sites, ensuring the delivery of both planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance activities. You will work closely with the Engineering Supervisor, providing technical guidance and support to the wider engineering team and deputising when required.
Your responsibilities will include maintaining electrical and mechanical plant and building systems, managing compliance activities, monitoring KPIs and SLAs, updating CAFM systems, carrying out inspections, overseeing contractors, and ensuring all engineering works are completed safely and efficiently. This is a client-facing role requiring regular interaction with school staff and stakeholders while supporting the continued operation of critical building services.
The position offers a varied, multi-site environment and provides an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer looking to progress towards a supervisory or management career pathway.
What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A recognised HNC/HND qualification in an engineering discipline or equivalent experience.
  • A completed engineering apprenticeship.
  • IOSH Health & Safety qualification.
  • Experience in a building services, facilities management, or maintenance engineering environment.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical and mechanical building systems.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience managing and prioritising reactive and planned maintenance workloads.
  • Good IT skills and experience using mobile maintenance technology.
  • A sound understanding of Health & Safety legislation and compliance requirements.

Desirable qualifications and experience include:

  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.
  • 2391 Testing & Inspection.
  • LVAP experience.
  • CAFM system experience.
  • Experience working within the education sector.
  • Knowledge of HVAC, electrical distribution systems, L8 compliance, COSHH, and confined spaces.

Must drive and have a full UK driving licence.
