CNC Operator/Programmer Job Responsibilities

As part of the CNC Operator/Programmer job in Bristol, the successful candidate will:

  • Create and edit CNC programs using CAM software including DraftSight and VCarve or manual G-code.
  • Optimise toolpaths, feeds and speeds to improve machining efficiency and quality.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, 3D models and GD&T requirements.
  • Set up CNC mills and lathes, including tooling, fixtures, work holding and program loading.
  • Complete machine offsets, tool length setting and adjustments during production.
  • Run prototype and production jobs to meet quality and delivery requirements.
  • Inspect components using micrometers, calipers, height gauges and other precision measuring equipment.
  • Record inspection results and report any nonconformities.
  • Identify and resolve machining issues including chatter, tool wear and program errors.

Skills Required for the Job

The successful candidate for the CNC Operator/Programmer job in Bristol will have:

  • Proven experience as a CNC Operator, CNC Programmer or similar.
  • Strong knowledge of G-code and CAM programming.
  • Experience setting and operating CNC mills and/or lathes.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and GD&T.
  • Strong understanding of machining principles, tooling and materials.

Desirable Skills

For the CNC Operator/Programmer job in Bristol, the following would also be beneficial:

  • Experience with CAD modelling software.
  • Knowledge of 5-axis CNC machining.
  • Understanding of ISO 9001 or AS9100 quality systems.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing or continuous improvement.

Working Environment

The CNC Operator/Programmer job in Bristol will be based in a machine shop environment, with exposure to machinery, noise, coolant and oils.

The role will involve standing for extended periods, lifting materials and operating CNC equipment. Appropriate PPE will be required.
