Expleo UK LTD

Stirling Dynamics is looking for Systems Hardware Engineers to join our Software\Gateware & Electronics Hardware team in Bristol.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys working across both electronics hardware and the wider product/system lifecycle. You may already have systems engineering experience at equipment or product level, or you may be an electronics or hardware engineer looking to broaden your experience into requirements management, architecture, integration, verification and validation.

At Stirling Dynamics, we develop electro-mechanical and mechatronic systems and electronic hardware for aerospace and training\simulation applications. Due to continued growth, we are seeking an enthusiastic engineer who wants to help shape electronic controller products from early definition through to design, integration, testing and delivery.

In this role, you will support the design and development of electronic controller products for aerospace and training\simulation markets. Working closely with systems, electronics, software, gateware, safety, mechanical and simulation specialists, you will help translate customer and product requirements into robust technical solutions.

For engineers looking to move closer to hardware systems engineering, this role offers exposure to requirements capture, electronic system architecture, verification planning, product-level decision-making and multi-disciplinary project delivery.

The role will be predominantly based in our Bristol office, with occasional travel to customer sites as required.

Due to the security requirements of the projects, candidates must be eligible to work on restricted UK programmes. For this role, we can only consider UK nationals.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a structured and pragmatic engineering approach.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within multi-disciplinary engineering teams.
  • Self-motivated, adaptable and capable of managing multiple technical priorities.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Desired skills

  • Experience using requirements management tools such as Polarion or DOORS.
  • Exposure to DO-254 planning processes, development activities or SOI audits.
  • Experience working directly with customers.

Experience

Candidates may come from a range of backgrounds including Systems Engineering, Hardware Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Electronic Systems Engineering or FPGA Gateware Engineering. Experience in one or more of the following areas would be beneficial:

  • Requirements capture, derivation, allocation and management for hardware, systems or products.
  • Equipment-level system architecture, electronic controller architecture or product-level design definition.
  • Design, development, integration and test of electronic hardware for electromechanical systems.
  • Verification and validation planning, test specification, execution and evidence generation.
  • Working within multidisciplinary teams across systems, electronics, software, gateware, safety, mechanical and simulation disciplines.
  • Power electronics, motor drives or controller development.
  • Communication interface electronics.
  • Electromechanical position sensing technologies, including LVDTs, RVDTs and encoders.
  • FPGA-based systems.
  • Environmental qualification and aerospace standards such as DO-160.
  • Aircraft certification standards, including DO-178C, DO-254 and DO-160.
  • Space programmes operating within ECSS, NASA or equivalent assurance frameworks.

Benefits

Competitive Package (Grade 6 - 7, £60,000 - £72,500 dependent on experience).

  • Opportunity to work on innovative aerospace and training\simulation products.
