The role is hands-on and will involve taking projects from initial concept through to testing, validation and production.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the design and development of complex electronic systems and product platforms.
  • Own key hardware areas including embedded controllers, audio, sensors, thermal management, HMI and related firmware interfaces.
  • Produce circuit designs, schematics and PCB layouts, ensuring designs are reliable and suitable for manufacture.
  • Contribute to embedded firmware development and code reviews using C/C++ and Zephyr RTOS.
  • Develop effective testing strategies and support automated testing and CI processes.
  • Lead hardware and firmware verification, validation and compliance activities.
  • Maintain accurate BOMs, technical drawings and manufacturing documentation.
  • Investigate quality issues and drive improvements across products and processes.
  • Support risk assessments, DFMEA and engineering controls in line with relevant standards.
  • Provide technical input into future platforms, technologies and product roadmaps.
  • Build strong relationships with suppliers and manufacturing partners.
  • Work closely with Quality, Production, Repairs and other technical teams to resolve issues and improve product performance.
  • Mentor and support other engineers within the team.

The Ideal Candidate:
  • Strong experience in electronics engineering, covering analogue, digital and power electronics.
  • Proven experience with circuit design, schematic capture and PCB development.
  • Experience developing embedded C/C++ firmware, ideally with Zephyr RTOS and modern microcontrollers.
  • Knowledge of hardware testing, verification, validation and automated test environments.
  • Understanding of EMC and electrical safety requirements, particularly IEC (phone number removed) and IEC (phone number removed)-2.
  • Experience with engineering risk management, DFMEA and regulatory documentation.
  • A good understanding of manufacturing, DFM/DFA and supplier management.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical information clearly.
  • A proactive, collaborative approach and the confidence to take ownership of complex projects.
  • Experience within medical, assistive or accessibility technology would be advantageous.

What’s on Offer:
  • Hybrid working with a minimum of three days per week in the Bristol office.
  • 25 days’ annual leave plus public holidays.
  • Pension, life assurance and income protection.
  • Private medical insurance.
  • Flexible working and wellbeing benefits.
  • Training and development opportunities.
  • Cycle-to-work and EV salary sacrifice schemes.
  • A supportive, collaborative working environment with opportunities to make a genuine impact through innovative technology.
