Bonus Structure:
Hours: Monday to Friday
8:45am – 4:45pm
Mileage: 38p per mile
Expenses: All business mileage, travel and overnight accommodation fully paid
Role Overview:
Are you an experienced Health & Social Care Assessor looking for a role without a learner caseload?
Or perhaps you're a Level 5 Health & Social Care professional who enjoys assessing practice and supporting learners, but wants to move away from portfolio management and heavy administration?
We are recruiting an experienced Observation Assessor – Health & Social Care to support apprenticeship learners across the South West region.
This is a specialist role focused purely on conducting workplace observations for learners completing City & Guilds Health & Social Care qualifications. Unlike traditional assessor positions, you will not hold a caseload of learners, allowing you to focus entirely on observation activity, evidence gathering and learner progression.
Working closely with Performance Development Managers (PDMs), you will play a key role in helping apprentices demonstrate competency and generate high-quality evidence against apprenticeship standards.

Key Responsibilities:
Observation & Assessment Delivery
- Conduct workplace observations for Health & Social Care learners up to Level 5
- Travel throughout the South West region completing face-to-face observations
- Work alongside Performance Development Managers to support learner progression
- Observe learners against apprenticeship standards and occupational competency requirements
- Gather evidence against Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours (KSBs)
- Produce high-quality observation reports
- Deliver clear and constructive developmental feedback
- Ensure all observations meet City & Guilds and apprenticeship requirements
- Maintain accurate assessment documentation
- Complete reports and administrative activity within required timescales
- Support consistency and assessment quality across the wider team
- Maintain compliance with awarding organisation and quality standards
- Liaise with employers to arrange observation activity
- Build positive working relationships with workplace managers
- Support learners in understanding feedback and progression requirements
- Promote a positive learner and employer experience
Where required, support:
- Professional Discussions
- Mock End Point Assessment preparation
- Additional evidence gathering
- Progression-focused learner interventions
Essential Criteria:
- Level 5 qualification in Health & Social Care
- TAQA, CAVA, A1, D32/33 or equivalent assessor qualification
- Minimum two years' occupational experience within Health & Social Care at Senior Carer level or above
- Previous apprenticeship assessment experience
- Experience conducting workplace observations
- Strong communication and report-writing skills
- Excellent organisational skills
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
- Willingness to travel extensively across the South West
Desirable Criteria:
- Experience working with City & Guilds qualifications
- IQA qualification
- Experience supporting End Point Assessment preparation
- Understanding of apprenticeship funding and compliance requirements
- Experience within adult social care apprenticeship provision
Additional Information:
