Monarch Education are working with a supportive secondary school in Bristol that is seeking a confident Sociology specialist to join its Social Sciences team for the first term. This full-time role offers the consistency to build positive relationships with pupils, contribute to their progress and become a valued member of the school community.
The role
You will deliver engaging Sociology lessons, primarily across Key Stages 4 and 5, helping pupils develop their knowledge of society, culture, identity, inequality, crime and research methods. You will take responsibility for planning and marking throughout the first term, following the school's schemes of work, examination specifications and assessment expectations. Depending on experience and the school timetable, there may also be opportunities to teach another Social Sciences subject.
You will be:
* Planning and delivering high-quality Sociology lessons across KS4 and KS5
* Marking work, assessing progress and providing constructive feedback
* Preparing pupils for GCSE and A-level assessments, where applicable
* Encouraging critical thinking, discussion and evidence-based analysis
* Adapting lessons to meet a range of abilities and learning needs
* Maintaining a calm, purposeful and well-managed classroom environment
* Using assessment information to inform future teaching
* Working collaboratively with the Social Sciences department and wider school team
* Following school policies, curriculum guidance and safeguarding procedures
We are looking for someone who is:
* A qualified teacher with QTS, or an experienced Sociology teacher with relevant UK classroom experience
* Confident teaching Sociology at secondary level, including examination classes
* Knowledgeable about the UK Sociology curriculum and current examination specifications
* Skilled in classroom and behaviour management
* Organised and able to manage planning, assessment and marking responsibilities
* Positive, reliable and committed to a long-term placement
* Able to inspire pupils of different abilities and backgrounds
* A strong communicator who works well as part of a team
Requirements:
* QTS or an appropriate recognised teaching qualification is desirable
* Strong subject knowledge in Sociology
* Experience teaching in a UK secondary school is preferred
* Enhanced DBS on the update service, or willingness to apply for one
* Right to work in the UK
* Willingness to complete registration, compliance and safeguarding checks
