Working within a modern manufacturing environment, you'll be responsible for setting and operating advanced CNC milling machines to produce complex, high-precision components for demanding industries. The Role
As a CNC Miller – Setter/Operator, you will be responsible for setting and operating 3, 4 and 5-axis CNC milling machines, ensuring components are manufactured accurately, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.
You'll work closely with production leaders, engineers, and fellow machinists to achieve production targets while driving continuous improvement across the manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Set and operate 3, 4 and 5-axis CNC milling machines.
- Work with Heidenhain and/or Fanuc control systems.
- Manufacture complex precision components from a variety of materials.
- Ensure parts are produced to engineering drawings and customer specifications.
- Set work offsets using probes, wobble bars, and DTI clocks.
- Select, install, and set cutting tools, fixtures, and workholding equipment.
- Monitor machining operations and make adjustments as required to maintain quality and efficiency.
- Meet planned set-up times, cycle times, and quality standards.
- Complete production documentation, setup sheets, and tooling records accurately.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, SQDCP meetings, and 5S activities.
- Report and communicate quality concerns, including Not Right First Time (NRFT) issues.
- Support delivery schedule adherence and production performance targets.
- Work flexibly across shifts and locations when required.
What We're Looking For
Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven experience as a CNC Miller – Setter/Operator.
- Strong knowledge of CNC machining principles and best practices.
- Experience operating CNC milling machines using Heidenhain and/or Fanuc controls.
- Ability to set machines independently, including tooling, fixtures, work offsets, and workholding.
- Strong understanding of engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Ability to produce components accurately to tight tolerances.
- Experience using precision measuring equipment, including:
- Micrometers
- Verniers
- Plug Gauges
- Other inspection equipment
- Good knowledge of manufacturing techniques and machining processes.
- Excellent attention to detail and quality standards.
- Strong problem-solving and fault-finding skills.
- Good communication and teamwork abilities.
Desirable Experience
- Aerospace manufacturing experience.
- Experience with OEE/FourJaw systems.
- Experience using CMM and Opticline inspection equipment.
- Exposure to high-complexity, precision-machined components.
