Health & Safety Manager
Location: Avonmouth or Exeter (regular travel between Avonmouth, Highbridge & Exeter)
Salary: £45,000 - £50,000
Hours: Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week
Reporting to: Aftersales Director
The Opportunity
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Health & Safety Manager to take ownership of the Health & Safety function across a growing multi-site operation. This role will be responsible for leading Health & Safety strategy, ensuring legislative compliance, driving continuous improvement, and promoting a positive safety culture across all locations.
The successful candidate will work closely with directors, depot management teams, employees, contractors, and external stakeholders to maintain high standards of safety and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve the Health & Safety Management System.
- Ensure compliance with UK Health & Safety legislation and best practice.
- Maintain company policies, procedures, risk assessments, and safe systems of work.
- Conduct audits, inspections, and workplace assessments.
- Lead accident, incident, near-miss, and RIDDOR investigations.
- Advise senior management on compliance requirements and emerging risks.
- Deliver Health & Safety training, inductions, toolbox talks, and awareness initiatives.
- Manage fire safety, emergency planning, and occupational health programmes.
- Oversee contractor compliance and statutory inspection programmes.
- Produce KPI reports, audit findings, and compliance updates for leadership teams.
Essential Requirements
NEBOSH National General Certificate (or equivalent)
Proven experience in a Health & Safety Management role
Strong understanding of UK H&S legislation and compliance requirements
Experience conducting audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations
Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
Strong administrative and report-writing abilities
Full UK Driving Licence and willingness to travel between sites
Desirable Requirements
- NEBOSH Diploma or Level 6 equivalent
- IOSH Membership (TechIOSH, GradIOSH or CMIOSH)
- Experience within automotive, engineering, transport, logistics, manufacturing, or commercial vehicle sectors
- Internal Auditor qualification
- First Aid at Work certification
- Experience with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 management systems
