Accounts Payable Manager

Join our team as an Accounts Payable Manager and take the lead in developing and managing our Accounts Payable function. This role is essential for maintaining strong financial controls across the Purchase Ledger and Subcontract Ledger, ensuring the team operates with high accuracy and efficiency. As a hands-on leader, you will drive process improvements, manage financial risks, and ensure consistent achievement of deadlines and performance targets.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Oversee the daily operations of the Accounts Payable team, ensuring smooth and efficient processes.
  • Manage financial risks within the Purchase Ledger and Subcontract Ledger.
  • Lead the month-end and year-end Accounts Payable processes.
  • Ensure high-volume invoice processing is completed accurately and on time.
  • Develop, report, and monitor Accounts Payable KPIs, SLAs, and management information.
  • Plan and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and control.
  • Manage team workload, capacity, and performance, including absence management.
  • Ensure compliance with Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) processes and manage monthly HMRC returns.
  • Maintain strong relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • Identify and address non-compliance, recommending solutions and improvements.
  • Deliver effective onboarding and ongoing training for team members.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proven experience managing or supervising an Accounts Payable team.
  • Strong knowledge of Purchase Ledger processes and financial controls.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach with strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Confidence using financial systems and Excel.

Desirable:

  • AAT or AP-specific qualification (e.g., CAPP, APA).
  • Experience within the construction or property services sectors.
