Design Estimating Engineer Job Overview
- Lead and deliver design work for various piling techniques including bearing, tension, laterally loaded piles, and retaining structures.
- Prepare designs for both tender and contract stages, including post-award redesigns and site modifications.
- Estimate and prepare competitive tenders that maximise opportunity success.
- Evaluate incoming piling enquiries and assess technical suitability.
- Liaise with internal departments and external stakeholders to resolve site or technical issues.
- Maintain design accountability through project handover and delivery.
- Support junior engineers through mentoring, development, and day-to-day guidance.
- Work collaboratively with regional teams to ensure bids align with company strategy and client expectations.
- Attend pre-tender meetings and client site visits as needed.
- Ensure all technical solutions comply with industry and company standards.
- Degree in Civil Engineering, Engineering Geology, or similar (MSc and/or Chartered status desirable).
- Proven experience designing a variety of piling and ground improvement techniques (CFA, CHD, Tubular Steel, Precast Driven).
- Strong understanding of estimating processes, site redesign and contract documentation.
- Confident in client interaction, technical negotiation, and cross-team collaboration.
- Ability to mentor and support junior team members.
- Based within commutable distance to Derby, Swansea or Bath.
