The Theatre Porter Supervisor is a core member of the Perioperative Team across all areas of Theatres and Medirooms.

The Theatre Porter Supervisors are responsible for overseeing the Band 2 porters on a shift-by-shift basis ,reporting to the Clinical Coordinators for Anaesthetics and Ancillary staff.

The Theatre Porter Supervisor will be responsible for carrying out duties as delegated by the Registered Practitioners (Nurses and Operating Department Practitioners) to support patient flow and theatre efficiency within the theatre and medi-room environment.

Main duties of the job

The Theatre Porter Supervisors Are Responsible For

  • Co-ordinating day to day staffing across the theatre complex, including changes at short notice due to sickness and workload.
  • Within the supervisory team, managing staff shift rotation, weekly allocation and return to work meetings for short term sickness.
  • Set an example for the team by always acting within the Trust standards.
  • Working closely with the Band 7 Clinical Co-ordinators to oversee smooth running of the operating schedule.

Education/Training/Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Apprenticeship in Health Level 2 or QCF Diploma level 2 Health (NB: Although this qualification is essential for the role, applicants without the relevant course will be expected to complete the training in the workplace as an apprenticeship)
  • Numeracy and Literacy Level 1 or equivalent
  • Evidence of full-time education achievements
  • IT skills, basic word, Email, keyboard skills, data collection
  • Ability and willingness to undertake appropriate training for required clinical activities

Work Experience

Essential criteria

  • Experience of working in a health or social care setting
  • Be able to work as a member of a team
  • Experience of time management skills and prioritising work

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Essential criteria

  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Able to complete appropriate documentation accurately
  • Able to demonstrate an awareness of healthcare work and policies and procedures
  • Able to adapt quickly to changing situations
  • Committed to providing high quality patient care

Personal Qualities/Special Circumstances

Essential criteria

  • Flexible and adaptable to change, able to work a range of shifts and moving across wards, departments as the need arises.
  • Able to demonstrate calm, caring patient manner/attitude
