This role will manage, deliver and develop our fundraising programme for trusts, foundations and other funders.
In this role, you'll build deep and meaningful relationships with funders and prospective funders who have the potential to support our work with young people. You'll make a significant contribution to realising the charity’s fundraising targets through maximising income from funders.
Main Duties And Responsibilities

Main Duties And Responsibilities
- Identify and apply for suitable funding applications
- Work to financial targets and KPIs and be able to report on these
- Proactively identify and research suitable funding opportunities from charitable trusts, foundations, and statutory bodies
- Keep abreast of external funding trends
- Manage a strong pipeline of funding opportunities and applications, ensuring deadlines are met.
- Write and submit high-quality applications and proposals based on the funding priorities and Empire’s case for support.
- Work closely with colleagues to gather compelling, accurate and up-to-date data and information for applications.
- Tailor all applications to the funder's requirements and priorities
- Work alongside the Head of Fundraising to develop proposals for businesses and corporate foundations
- Manage relationships with funders
- Build relationships with prospective funders, including through meetings, attendance at conferences and events, and hosting visits.
- Manage a portfolio of Empire’s funders, and develop customised cultivation plans, stewardship plans and strategies for each donor.
- Ensure all funders have regular communications, including newsletters and specific updates on grant funded work.
- Identify and provide opportunities for funders to engage in the work of Empire Fighting Chance.
- Write donor reports and contribute to effective grant management
- Support the implementation of grant funded projects, ensuring colleagues understand targets, outcomes and reporting requirements
- Provide oversight of all donor reporting for the charity
- Write engaging and timely reports for Empire’s funders
- Work closely with the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Officer to ensure that reports feature accurate data and engaging stories
- Support the development of the Fundraising Team and wider organisation
- Contribute to the development of Empire’s overall fundraising strategy
- Support the wider fundraising team with the delivery of fundraising activities, when needed
- Identify and recommend improvements to the charity’s communications, monitoring, evaluation and other functions that can support fundraising
- Ability to create compelling proposals for funders
- The ability to work through the fundraising cycle with funders to initiate, renew and grow funding
- Excellent research and prospecting skills
- Highly organised, with an ability to manage a busy workload and meet application and reporting deadlines
- Ability to develop budgets
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with an ability to build good relationships internally and externally.
- Able to engage critically in Empire’s work and the issues it tackles.
- Understanding of and interest in sport, and preferably boxing
- Minimum two years’ experience of generating income from UK trusts and foundations
- Experience in the grant application and bid-writing process, and storytelling.
- Experience in developing long term partnerships with trusts and foundations.
- Track record of achieving financial targets
- Desire to continuously improve how things are done.
- Takes a personal, collaborative and positive approach.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and uphold high ethical standards.
- Comfortable working in an informal environment.
- A passion for and commitment to Empire’s mission and beliefs.
