Job Overview
The role is within waste services, to clear away full sharps waste containers and delivery empty reusable sharps bins to all areas of the hospital, including retained estate.
Main duties of the job
The shifts will either be 9-2pm or 10-3pm (TBA) Monday to Friday, with 30 mins unpaid break and no weekend working.

Main duties of the job
The shifts will either be 9-2pm or 10-3pm (TBA) Monday to Friday, with 30 mins unpaid break and no weekend working.
- The candidate should be able to work on their own initiative and understand Waste Services within an NHS environment.
- The successful candidate for this service should be able to organise themselves and prioritise their workload for the day effectively, in line with service needs. There is paperwork to complete whilst on shift
- You will be required to have a driving licence, for the delivery of clean bins out on retained estate
- You will be responsible for clearing full sharps waste bins from waste holds on the levels & other departments around the hospital.
- Once the bins are collected, they will need to be put in to the correct waste streams ready for external contractor collection, down in the main waste hold.
- You will be required due to absence deliver clean empty reuseable Sharpsmart containers on levels & other departments around the hospital, including retain estate.
- We are a customer focused team, therefore clear communication skills are required, as you will be working & communicating with the wards & departments.
- You will report directly to Waste Services Team leader.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
Physical Effort
- Duties involve standing/walking for long periods of time during the shift
- Duties may involve undertaking physically demanding tasks e.g. moving cages of approximately 300kg in weight as and when required
- Being aware of health and safety implications involved in duties and their potential effect on others e.g. Ensuring that equipment is stored appropriately
- At ward level keeping a professional distance from patients and ensuring confidentiality at all times
- Working to schedules which may be subject to change
- Whilst working at ward level being able to cope with witnessing distressing sights of patients who are very ill and may be at the end stages of life
- Whilst working in the Emergency Department witnessing traumatic injuries
- In the course of your duties you will need to be sensitive when coming into contact with patients and members of the public who may be experiencing high levels of stress and anxiety are confrontational or under the influence of alcohol
