National Grid is hiring a Data Insight Analyst on a permanent basis. The base location can be based from our Bristol or Castle Donnington Office - we offer hybrid working policy

Job Purpose

Reporting to the Lead Data Insight Analyst, the Data Insight Analyst is responsible for analysing and interpreting complex datasets to generate actionable insights that support strategic and operational decision-making across NGED. This role plays a key part in enabling a data-driven culture by delivering high-quality, accessible reporting and analytics solutions.

The Data Insight Analyst will work closely with data engineers, insight analysts, and business stakeholders to develop dashboards, reports, and models that enhance decision-making capabilities. They will ensure best practices in data analytics, visualisation, and governance, while continuously improving analytical methodologies.

In addition to technical expertise, the role requires strong communication skills to translate complex data into clear and impactful insights for non-technical audiences. The successful candidate will contribute to the continuous enhancement of NGED’s business intelligence capabilities and drive the adoption of self-service analytics.

What You'll Do

  • Develop and maintain dashboards, reports, and analytical models to support data-driven decision-making across NGED.
  • Work closely with stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into actionable insights.
  • Support the adoption of self-service analytics by enabling business users to access and interpret data effectively.
  • Ensure data quality, accuracy, and consistency in reporting by applying rigorous validation and governance practices.
  • Optimise the performance and usability of dashboards and reports to enhance user experience.
  • Collaborate with data engineers to ensure data pipelines are structured effectively for analytical use.
  • Implement best practices in data visualisation and storytelling to communicate insights effectively.
  • Use statistical analysis and machine learning techniques where appropriate to uncover patterns and trends.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of NGED’s data and analytics capabilities by evaluating new tools and technologies.
  • Stay updated with industry best practices and trends in analytics, business intelligence, and cloud technologies.
  • Support Agile delivery principles and contribute to the efficient execution of analytics projects.


About You

  • Strong analytical mindset with experience in extracting insights from complex datasets.
  • Proficiency in SQL for querying and transforming data.
  • Hands-on experience with business intelligence tools such ideally AWS QuickSight however open to candidates with experience in similar tools such as Power BI or Tableau.
  • Understanding of data modelling, ETL processes, and best practices for data visualisation.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to present insights clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including data engineers and business stakeholders.
  • Experience working with cloud-based data platforms such as AWS Redshift, Snowflake, or BigQuery.
  • Knowledge of Python or R for data analysis and statistical modelling is desirable.
  • Experience in Agile working environments and familiarity with version control tools such as Git.
  • High attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.


What You'll Get

A competitive salary between ££50,000 – £65,000 – dependent on capability

As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
