Overview
Stirling Dynamics is recruiting a Mechanical Design & Manufacturing Engineer to join the Mechanical Design capability team on a permanent basis.
The Mechanical Design & Manufacturing Engineer will be supporting the design and development of innovative technical solutions for applications within the aerospace, flight simulator sectors & Urban Air Mobility sectors. The Mechanical Design & Manufacturing Engineer will be required to work closely with System and Stress engineers as well as Procurement and the Workshop within a multidisciplinary project team to ensure the delivery of projects to the agreed technical requirements, timescales and budget. Acting as the focal point for all manufacturing-related questions, they will be involved in all aspects of the product design life cycle, from initial concept generation, detailed design, implementation, product improvement and in-serve product support.
This role will be based in our Bristol office however as part of our commitment to flexible working, employees are able to work remotely for part of the time.

Responsibilities
- Providing conceptual and detail designs to satisfy project requirements
- Preparing design support documentation and maintaining concise engineering records
- Producing of drawing packs in line with configuration management processes
- Support the procurement of manufactured parts to ensure the best quality for the best price
- Support and lead continuous improvement, problem solving and process improvement activities
- Conduct benchmarking studies to determine best practices/designs and future trends
- Supporting NPI/development projects in the introduction of new designs
- Reduce variability in manufacturing by providing standard work methods and work instructions
- Investigate production and process issues providing technical support and training
- Generating production documentation such as assembly instructions
- Conducting engineering investigations for existing product improvements
- Conducting engineering change management activities on existing designs
- Designing fixtures and tooling for assembly tasks
- Ensuring adherence to best practice technical standards, including those issued via the Company’s Quality Management System, classifications and statutory bodies
- Degree in Aerospace, Mechanical or Design Engineering (or equivalent)
- Knowledge of BS8888 & GD&T
- Proficient with mechanical part manufacturing methods
- Manufacturing/assembly line support
- Experience with part and assembly design using CAD software
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team
- Positive "Can Do" attitude
- Good verbal/communication skills
- Proven technical leadership in a similar role
- Configuration management using a PDM software
- Design for manufacture
- PFMEA
- Proficient with SolidWorks & PDM Pro
- Experience with Siemens NX & Teamcenter
- Experience with Catia V5
- ASME Y14.5
- Electromechanical Systems
Relevant experience within a product design team, preferably within aerospace.
