Head of Cyber Security Detection and Response

National: £110,000 - £140,000 / London: £120,000 - £160,000


We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head of Cyber Security Detection and Response to lead and manage Aviva's strategy and teams responsible for detecting and responding to cyber security threats. This role is pivotal in our strategy and approach for detecting malicious activity and responding to all cyber incidents. It is a challenging role that requires domain expertise and a deep understanding of the evolving threat landscape.


A bit about the job:


This role leads Aviva's cyber defence operations, overseeing threat detection, response, and recovery across the organisation. It plays a strategic part in shaping security capabilities and ensuring resilience against emerging cyber threats.



  • Lead and evolve the Security Operations Centre, Threat Hunting, and Incident Response functions to protect the business from cyber threats.

  • Collaborate with the security leadership to define the right mix of technology, processes, and people capabilities to maintain strong cyber defence

  • Design and implement automated monitoring systems and lead efforts to detect and analyse malicious activities with cutting-edge tools

  • Manage team performance and budgets while promoting professional development, process optimisation, and a strong security culture

  • Work closely with leadership and stakeholders to align incident response activities and embed security into business operations and roadmaps


Skills and experience we're looking for:

  • Proven experience in leading and managing cyber security teams, including SOC, Threat Hunting, and Incident Management.

  • Strong understanding of cyber security technologies, processes, and best practices.

  • Excellent strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with senior leadership and external stakeholders.

  • National salary £110,000 - £140,000 and London salary £120,000 - £160,000 (depending on location, skills, experience, and qualifications)
