Technical Programme Manager - Hybrid Powertrain - #1726418
Vertical Aerospace
Date: 20 hours ago
City: Bristol
Contract type: Full time
Work schedule: Full day

Our Mission
We are breaking the boundaries and pushing our commitment in the EVTOL world by changing the way the world travels. Our mission is powered by pioneers and progress is our prerogative.
Here at Vertical, we are developing the UK’s first fully electric, vertical take-off and landing aircraft (eVTOL), the VX4. With zero-operating emissions. Vertical is transforming the way people travel through offering a faster, safer and greener way to move.
Founded in 2016, Vertical is a leading aerospace and technology company, with the largest global pre-order book with prestigious airline partners such as American Airlines, and our exceptional partner ecosystem includes the likes of Honeywell.
What To Expect
As the Technical Programme Manager for the Hybrid Powertrain Department, you won’t just track other people’s progress — you’ll own the successful delivery of certified, flight-ready hardware. This is a role for a proactive, technically astute leader who thrives at the intersection of engineering, programme governance, and cross-functional integration.
You will operate at the heart of our Demo and VX4 Certification programmes, driving complex systems integration from design through to manufacturing. You will be the critical interface between the Hybrid Powertrain team and the overarching Programme Office — ensuring plans are realistic, timelines are justified and measurable, and that progress is consistently aligned with the goals of the wider business.
What You'll Do
We're on a mission. Where others see limits, we see opportunity, and we work at pace. Working at Vertical isn't your average role but for those seeking a challenge, a flexible, supportive organisation and an incredible team; working here is an opportunity to do the best work of your career.
Our approach promotes ingenuity and courage, while our environment builds success through diligence in safety and being open in the way we work. The only way we're going to assure the next chapter of aviation history is by working as a team, relentlessly, towards our goal.
Our Benefits
Our people matter - we're not going anywhere without them. Which is why our company benefits go beyond the essentials.
Disclaimer Statement
We encourage you to apply even if you may not have all the experience listed in the advert. We recognise that talent comes in various forms and we are committed to providing opportunities that create an environment of growth, diversity, and inclusion for everyone. What You'll Do
- You will develop, coordinate, and actively manage detailed level one plans in Microsoft Project, ensuring seamless alignment with the overarching VX4 Integrated Master Schedule.
- You will track and manage daily deliverables using Atlassian tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence), ensuring dependencies, blockers, and critical paths are clearly identified and resolved.
- Act as the key conduit between the Hybrid Powertrain team and the Programme Office, consolidating and translating technical progress into accurate, timely updates for senior stakeholders.
- You will be leading the reporting of project progress and resource consumption, including creation of progress, variance & deliverable maturity reports for the Hybrid Systems Department.
- Work closely with the Head of Department to track spend, monitor variance, and support financial planning across the cost centre.
- You will assist workstream leads to estimate resource demand and standardize across product teams, including developing business cases for resource shortfalls.
- A proven track record of managing complex, multi-disciplinary engineering programmes across the full lifecycle — from design through to manufacturing and integration.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Project and Atlassian tools for scheduling, task management, and reporting.
- Strong project governance skills: risk management, formal change control, and stakeholder engagement.
- Solid understanding of financial forecasting and tracking processes — with experience supporting cost centre management.
- Exceptional communication skills, with the confidence to engage and influence stakeholders from engineers to executives.
- You take initiative, foresee roadblocks, and bring together the right people and data to resolve them efficiently.
- Experience building realistic, measurable project plans that hold engineering teams to account while allowing for flexibility where needed.
- Competence with Business Intelligence principles (data visualization software skills a bonus).
- A relevant BSc degree in Engineering, Project Management, or a related field.
