Job Overview
We are looking for a Consultant Gynaecologist to join our team of Consultants in Women’s Health at Southmead Hospital, North Bristol NHS Trust, Bristol.
We are looking for a Consultant who has an interest in Urogynaecology so would be really keen to hear from you if this is your interest!
This is an exciting opportunity to join our team when we are developing and expanding services offering high quality care to our women in all parts of our service.
Main duties of the job
Applicants are required to be on the Specialist Register and have CCT in Obstetrics and Gynaecology or be within six months of obtaining it by the interview date.
Full registration with the GMC is essential. The post is based at Southmead Hospital. The appointee will be required to reside not more than 30 minutes travel by road from base hospital, for on-call purposes.
Experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems and practices or equivalent is essential. The successful candidates will be employed under Terms & Conditions of Service for Consultants (England) 2003.

The Trust moved the majority of its acute services to the Brunel Building in May 2014 which is regarded as one of the best hospital facilities in Europe, on the Southmead Hospital site. The Trust has teaching status and is linked with the University of Bristol and the University of the West of England. The women and children’s services are delivered on the same site in a closely adjacent building.
Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
The post holder will hold CCT in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, or be within 6 months of this. They may have additional experience in other specialist areas to meet the needs of the department, but an interest in urogynaecology is essential for this role.
The postholder will be responsible for the clinical management of patients under their care, and, in liaison with consultant colleagues, continuity of care when the post holder is absent.
The postholder will be responsible for the professional supervision and management of junior medical staff.
The postholder will be required to take part in a Clinical Audit Programme.
There is a strong research element in our department. The option to develop research to complement our departmental research plans and could be negotiated in job planning if or when appropriate
We are developing our women’s health research research - participating in multicentre trials in early pregnancy and colposcopy and research projects in fertility.

Essential criteria
- MRCOG or equivalent
- CCT in Obstetrics & Gynaecology and have been entered on the GMC Specialist Register at the time of commencing the post.
- Maintain Full registration with the GMC.
- Clinical training and experience in general Obstetrics & Gynaecology equivalent to that required for UK CCT
- Evidence of recent CME/ reasonable training progression at this stage of career.
- Experience in audit projects and quality improvement projects completed
- Experience in delivering teaching - involvement in the organisation and design of a teaching programme.
- ATSM in or sub-specialty training in urogynaecology and vaginal surgery (ATSM/SITM)
- Recent experience and familiarity of UK hospital systems and practices (or equivalent).
- Experience in audit and quality improvement
- Higher academic qualification eg MD or MS
- RCOG accredited subspecialty training in urogynaecology
- Evidence of MDT working in urogynaecology
- Completion of a general management course or programme
- Demonstration of quality improvement projects successfully completed.
