About this role


The Learning Development teams will collaborate with academic and other professional services staff to:



  • design and deliver inclusive and innovative learning and assessment activities, embedded within the curriculum, that engage students to develop the academic English and academic literacies required to ensure integrity and confidencein their academic practice whilst optimising any learning differences.

  • establish relevant scaffolded co-curricular, small group, short course and one to one support to help students consolidate, fill gaps and improve their skills to maximise the chances of achieving successful programme outcomes.

  • develop and promote reading lists and other resources / collections to engage and excite students with a range of diverse and inclusive resources, encouraging reading and enquiry within their subject discipline and beyond.


This part time role will work within the team supporting the College of Health, Science and Society (CHSS) and with academic and professional staff to create a supportive and engaging learning development environment that meets students where they are with their respective opportunities and challenges.


This will require knowledge and understanding of the diverse ways in which students learn and an ability to employ (and develop) relevant resources and strategies to help them and, importantly, to enhance their confidence and autonomy as they progress through their studies.


To do this the role holder will need to keep abreast of developments across the sector.


They will also actively participate in scheduled meetings across the university, such as Student and staff forums, programme/cluster meetings and project groups, working collaboratively with team colleagues, attending and offering regular continuing professional development events and engaging in peer support schemes to maintain high quality professional practice.


About you


You will be qualified to graduate level or have demonstrable equivalent experience and a relevant professional qualification/certification or experience relating to one or more of the following:



  • Learning Development

  • Librarianship

  • Teaching (university students, English Language, specialist study skills/additional learning needs)

  • Higher Education Academy fellowship


You will have evidence of sustained continuing professional development (CPD) and possess knowledge, interest and expertise in learning development and support of students academic literacy.


You will work collaboratively on the development of academic literacy within and alongside the curriculum and on projects to achieve inclusive and student-centred learning. As such, you will be agile in the way you work and have effective communication and problem-solving skills, able to work across different devices, applications, and systems to achieve professional tasks in the most effective way.


In line with the universitys values you will show ambitionby taking initiative, and problem solving to tackle big issues, be able to build trusted connections with others, ensure learning is shared and accessible, innovate to embrace different ideas and take an enterprising approach in dealing with uncertainty.


Where is this role based?


This post is based at our lively Frenchay campus where we have invested in the latest facilities and resources to give both our staff and students access to everything they need to succeed.


The postholder will also be required, regularly, to work at the Glenside Campus which is set within beautiful grounds in Stapleton, just three miles north east of Bristol City Centre and will require.

This is a part-time, permanent post, working 30 hours per week.

This role is therefore campus based for at least 75 percent of your time, with the opportunity to work from home when there are no on campus commitments.
