What To Expect

As a Powertrain Test Technician at Vertical Aerospace, you will be at the forefront of testing and validating the advanced propulsion technologies that power the VX4. This is a highly hands-on role, requiring a blend of mechanical and electrical expertise to support the development of cutting-edge electric and hybrid systems. You will work closely with engineers, technicians, and cross-functional teams to ensure test rigs and subsystems are built, commissioned, and maintained to the highest standards.

What You’ll Do

• Perform mechanical and electrical component fitting in accordance with engineering drawings and build plans.
• Support the build, test, commissioning, and maintenance of sub-assemblies and full rig systems, including both low and high voltage components.
• Ensure all build documentation is completed accurately and maintained appropriately.
• Maintain high standards of tool cleanliness, organisation, and Foreign Object Debris (FOD) prevention throughout labs, workshops, and machine rooms.
• Support rig testing and troubleshooting activities during development.
• Be flexible to work shift patterns or additional hours during periods of high demand.
  
  

What You’ll Bring

• Strong working knowledge of high voltage systems, wiring harnesses, and build techniques including crimping and soldering.
• Hands-on experience in building and wiring electrical control cabinets.
• Experience working with Dynos or similar test systems.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines without compromising on quality.
• A collaborative and proactive attitude, with a willingness to support other teams and departments when required.
• A safety-first mindset, applying previous experience to help enhance existing Health, Safety and Environmental practices.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally within a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  
  

Desirable

• Recognised vocational qualification or apprenticeship in electrical or mechanical engineering.
• Previous experience working in a high-tech R&D or prototyping environment.
• Familiarity with aerospace, automotive, or related industries is a plus.
