Role description:

  • To lead activities towards ‘right people at the right time in the right place’ to deliver short- and long-term business plans and strategies using a blended approach that focuses on capabilities and SPO (Skills Powered Organisation). Understanding the balance of business financial targets (utilisation and multiplier), people-first decisions, and client experience.
  • To effectively lead and manage a team, whilst acting as a touch point for escalations, working as a trusted and respected business partner
  • To support the team in helping plan in the long term, 6 months – 2 years, the appropriate capability resource requirements as part of a whole workforce management strategy (including Resource Management, GEC, Contingent Workforce, and Recruitment).
  • To support the Strategic Workforce Planning vision of resource agility, bringing the benefit for our clients, our business, and our people.
  • To support Arcadis’s vision of improving the quality of life and becoming a UK employer of choice
  • To collaborate and coordinate with the Commercial Operations Team to ensure consistent reporting and support to Business Units
  • To provide insight on weekly resource forecast reports, including variance analysis, ensuring alignment to active projects, pipeline, and cost billability calculations
  • Ensure cross-validation of forecasts against actuals and variance
  • Ensure visibility of data and processes to support better collaboration

Reports to Business Area Operations Director; Direct Reports: 3-5 direct reports in the team

Role accountabilities:

Stakeholder management: Foster positive, collaborative relationships with key stakeholders in the business to build an understanding of business needs in the short and long term. For example (but not limited to)

  • Other Resource Managers
  • Commercial Operations Team
  • BDs
  • MDs to build an understanding of immediate focus areas and longer-term strategic goals
  • Strategic Pursuits Team
  • HRBPs, Finance, and TA

Resource Optimisation: Implement resource levelling across business lines by monitoring supply and demand. Optimise resourcing model through governance and allocation of permanent staff, contingent workers, and use of GEC in accordance with commercial plans, client needs, and meeting our employer of choice objectives. Negotiate on skills and grade mix to achieve optimal size and shape of team, taking account of L&D needs, skills gaps, and recruitment plans. Ensure the RP team has a clear understanding of the technical skillset of each resource and whether this can be utilised elsewhere when available. Ensure supply and demand are modelled between each business area and consistent sharing between each resource planning team member. Understand and look to enhance intercompany sharing of resources, regularly meeting with the GBA Resource Planning Lead.

Planning: Provide insight on skills and capabilities required and contribute to short, medium, and long-term business plans, adding value through strategic resourcing decisions and developing the understanding of the business into action plans and focus areas for RP and SWP. Provide insight into the analytics, modelling, and data integrity required for long-term strategic planning.

Continuous Improvement and Innovation: Working with key stakeholders and others in the SWP practice area to identify and build towards best practice and continue to evolve our approach to SWP. Always building towards providing the best value for the business.

One Team: provide inclusive leadership within the SWP domain.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Significant experience in resource management and workforce planning
  • Strong leadership and delegation skills with a keen eye for detail and a high level of data accuracy
  • A blend of people, data, and operational skill sets, collaborative with peers, confident, and self-aware with senior audiences
  • High integrity
  • Able to build relationships based on mutual trust and confidence, able to manage change effectively
  • Prior experience developed in a role where business partnering was key to success
  • Able to manage complex issues and act as a trusted advisor to the business line senior leadership team
  • Lead with integrity and have the courage and confidence to challenge, using evidence, strong relationships, and an understanding of the business line to influence effectively
  • Confident, positive, and active communicator - used to dealing with people at all levels, in particular, at the senior level
  • Demonstrates determination, resourcefulness, and purpose to deliver the best results for the business
  • Is future-focused, inquisitive, and open-minded; seeks out evolving and innovative ways to add value to the business
  • Uses information, insights, sound judgment, and knowledge in a structured way to identify options and make robust resourcing decisions
