Work schedule: Full day
EDF (UK)
About The Role

Location: Aztec West, Bristol (hybrid working)

Join EDF as an Independent Assessor, and you’ll join one of the most exciting and challenging projects within EDF.

The Opportunity

At Hinkley Point C (HPC) we are building two new nuclear reactors, the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK providing low carbon electricity for around six million homes.

We are looking for an Independent Assessor to ensure the robustness of the HPC organisation and its compliance with Regulations, International standards and internal policies in the areas of Pre-Operations and Supply Chain.

This is a brilliant opportunity to work as part of a pool of Independent Assessors, who are assigned ownership for different elements of the overall assurance programme and assigned activities aligned to their relevant specialist knowledge and experience (e.g. Nuclear Safety, Industrial Safety, Environmental). A key part of the role is to provide assurance of adequacy of Supply Chain arrangements in the short-medium term. In addition, assurance of Pre-Operational readiness in areas such as Maintenance/Operations/Emergency Planning/Work Management will become a stronger focus for this role as the project progresses.

Pay, Benefits And Culture…

We offer a competitive salary and benefits package, including a company pension scheme, a wide range of flexible benefits to suit your lifestyle, and the opportunity to earn bonus.

At EDF, everyone’s welcome. We strive to create an inclusive and diverse environment where everyone has a voice and where you feel confident being yourself. We’re committed to equality, diversity and inclusion. We’d like our future workforce to have an equal gender balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+, those with a disability and supporting social mobility.

We’re a disability confident employer and we’ll do all we can to help with your application, making adjustments as you need.

We’ll value the difference you bring and offer opportunities for you to thrive and succeed.

What You’ll Be Doing…

You’ll analyse outputs from assessments, audits, inspections, and organisational learning events to provide a clear view of how effective Pre-Operational and Supply Chain arrangements are, ensuring licence conditions are met and escalating issues where needed.

You'll assess and challenge project and business practices, reporting findings via the IA Manager to the Independent Nuclear Regulation Director. Your insights will support continuous improvement and alignment with UK, French, INPO, and WANO best practices.

You'll present independent views to both external regulators and internal committees like the

Nuclear Safety Committee, contributing to strong governance.

You’ll also support other Assurance teams, including Supply Chain Inspection, Independent Site Inspection, and Independent Technical Assessment, ensuring alignment and collaboration across the function.

By building strong relationships across the project, you’ll ensure Independent Assessment is properly scheduled and adds value at the right time.

Who You Are…

You’re likely degree-qualified in engineering or science (or have equivalent experience), with a strong background in the nuclear industry. Experience as a project engineer overseeing major modifications or retrofits would be ideal.

You’ve worked closely with Maintenance, Engineering, Operations, and Supply Chain teams, and bring a proactive approach, strong organisational skills, and the ability to lead assessments.

Confident and clear in your communication, you can influence at all levels and tailor messages to suit the audience. You’re experienced with complex technical projects and understand cross-functional interfaces.

You bring sound knowledge of UK nuclear regulations, including CDM, the Site Licence, and Environmental Permits. You're innovative, process-minded, and well-versed in quality systems and standards.

Experience in Nuclear Safety, Environmental, or Security auditing is a plus—as is prior involvement in independent oversight roles or WANO/INPO peer reviews.
